"I work in an experimental fashion, searching out different ways to depict my inner vision. My machine pieced and quilted wall hangings are always made exclusively of my own hand painted and dyed fabrics. These fabrics are made in response to an initial idea. I spend many hours trying out dye and paint techniques to create the surface and colours I want: scrunching, folding, painting, stamping, rubbing, heliographic painting, and spraying . I start cutting, rearranging and rethinking at each stage of the quilt design. Sometimes I combine applique3 with piecing or combine hand and machine quilting.

I discovered a new whole cloth technique, using my sewing machine to draw a contour line drawing freehand onto a sandwich of silk top, batting and backing. I use a water-based resist to cover the lines of quilting and then paint with silk dyes, employing various water colour techniques. This is sometimes followed with successive layers of quilting and painting and most recently beading. This led me to experiment with free-motion applique in a similar layered technique."

My computer printed series "Handy Woman" and "Cover Girls" all start with my own line drawing. Some are collaged with my photos of everyday objects; others are colored with Prismacolor markers or pencils and scanned into the computer. Some have been further manipulated on the computer. The inkjet printed silks are pieced together.
